How Easily Can You Enter the Industry?
For many entry-level Representative positions, matric provides the basic educational starting point. Passing RE5 can then make you significantly more employable.
Matric and RE5 do not automatically make you fully competent or guarantee employment. The Competency Standards depend on the financial products and services involved. However, an employer can often help an appointed Representative complete requirements such as:
- Product-specific Training
- Class of Business Training
- A recognised qualification
- The required practical experience
The difficulty is that many employers do not want to appoint someone who still needs to pass RE5. Passing it before applying removes a major concern for the employer and gives your CV far more value.

Here are three examples:
- RE5 FAIS Accredited Administrator: Matric and RE5/FAIS competence are required.
- Sales Consultant (RE5): A client-facing sales position in Johannesburg.
- Retentions Consultant: The advertisement specifically requires RE5 and a FAIS qualification.

This does not mean that one application will guarantee you a job. It does show that RE5 is connected to real positions being advertised throughout the country.
